Slope stabilization

Land, either as result of exposure to weather conditions or its own collapse, can cause hollows and landslides in hills, riverbeds, irrigation ditches, channels and slopes in general. These problems can result in disasters causing important material losses. To be able to stabilize sloping land exposed to erosion in the most economical way and with guarantees is possible through bioengineering.

Erosion and agriculture control

The soil and water conservation in agricultural land plays an important role in agriculture in general. At Ingeniería Viva we deal with soil conservation and with the restoration of land eroded by torrents, rise in river level and tides, etc. The implementation of narrow barriers that act as filters to catch the sediments caused by erosion, leads to the creation of natural terraces, which besides, reduce the speed of the rain water and improve control of the loss of fertile soil up to 90% and the reduction of torrents up to 70%, which means a significant increase in the amount of rain water available for crops and aquifers.

The Vetiver System has the capacity to decontaminate soils, due to its high capacity to absorb nitrates, phosphates, heavy metals, chemical products, agricultural products, etc. Vetiver absorbs these components through its roots and transfers them to its leaves.ra la absorción de nitratos, fosfatos, metales pesados, productos químicos agrícolas, etc. Vetiver absorbe estos componentes a través de sus raíces, y los traslada a su parte foliar.

Aquifer regeneration

The tools provided by nature are the best solution in the natural regeneration of aquifers. Therefore, when water reaches the Vetiver lines, the thickness and depth of their roots hold the moisture in the lower layers of land, helping this way to regenerate the aquifer and increasing the moisture in that area, favouring the rest of the surrounding flora.

Water treatment

Thanks to its capacity to tolerate high levels of nitrates, phosphates, E-Coli, heavy metals, chemical products, agricultural products, etc. the Vetiver System is applied to the treatment of polluted waters and/or sewage. It is also an excellent tool to fight against waters infested with bluish-green micro-algae.  

The purification of waters by the proposed system can be applied to water-treatment plants for urbanizations or towns, to waters coming from industry and to waters coming from private dwellings.

Bioengineering can also be applied to the treatment of swimming pools, obtaining pure, chemical free water.

CO2 Uptake

The Vetiver is a plant classified as C4, which makes it ideal for uptake and storage of atmospheric carbon.  It is a quick growing grass. Its deep root systems facilitate the blockade of carbon below the arable layer. It has an uptake potentiality of 60 tons /hectares per year.


In its green line, Ingeniería Viva has the participation of the specialist in agronomy Rafael Guerrero Gómez. A professional with a wide education in ecologic agriculture and a great passion: the organic agriculture.
